Generosity on Display
Tonight’s Rock was about generosity. The plan was for the “object lesson” of sorts for the night to be a call for Rock’ers to give to help feed poor people in Africa — Money that Kairos pastor JR Woodward will personally be taking to Kenya in a few weeks. That did happen and over $600 was raised. Not bad considering it was a smaller-than-usual night at the Rock due to a Christian concert happening at the same time over at Hilton Collesium.
But. something else happened tonight as well:

Five very serious looking men from Mars Hill in Iowa City arrived dressed in black and bringing with them $10,000 in cash for the Ezekiel Project. In order to make the Audio Plus building purchase a reality, we have to raise $100,000 for the down payment, probably within the next couple of months. The idea is for $50,000 to come from the Rock’ers themsevles (via personal giving, the giving of friends and family and fundraisers) and for the other $50,000 to come from 5 major donors giving $10,000 each. Before tonight, Tim had a pledge from one donor. Now, we have a second donor — our brothers and sisters in Iowa City! We’re 40% of the way there in the major donor department!
Needless to say, everyone (except Michael Riley, the one person who knew this was going to happen tonight) was in shock and awe! Especially Tim, who was on stage in the middle of his message about generosity when the “men in black” burst in. What a way to make a point!
