Weekend Getaway to Duluth
We went to Duluth this past weekend to celebrate our 6th anniversary…
I went to Duluth quite a few times with my family growing up, but it was Tony’s first visit. Tony’s mom watched the kids for us so we could get away by ourselves for the weekend. We enjoyed watching ships, looking around at the maritime museum, eating at some fun restaurants, and driving up the north shore of Lake Superior to see Split Rock Lighthouse.
Duluth is a great nearby vacation destination…we’re looking forward to going back with our kids sometime in the future.

Did you guys happen to go to the New Scenic Cafe? It’s along the North Shore Scenic Highway. That was one of Mike and I’s fav. We went to Duluth for a mini getaway when I was pregnant with Joy. Unfortunately for us, I was extremely (morning) sick most of the time. But it’s definitely an interesting place! Mike loves those ships. BTW, noticed you’re having a boy (on Facebook) and I wanted to comment but it wouldn’t let me. Congrats! I’m excited for the next Hill! Joy does things all the time that remind me of Madeline when she was that age. Anyway, this is getting way too long for a blog post comment. Ciao!
We drove past the New Scenic Cafe, but we didn’t eat there. The three interesting places we ate at were Amazing Grace Cafe (breakfast place), Fitger’s (local brewery), and the Top of the Harbor Restaurant (rotating restaurant on the top of the Radisson Hotel). If we would have had more time, we probably would have stopped for lunch at Betty’s Pies outside of Two Harbors on the way back from seeing the lighthouse. But by that time (Sunday afternoon), we were eager to grab a quick lunch and begin the drive home…so that meal was a boring one at Subway instead.
who in their right mind, for any reason, passes up a chance to eat at Betty’s? man, I feel for your great loss…
I’ve never actually eaten there, I’ve just heard it’s a great place to go. So, I guess it’s easier to pass up when you don’t know exactly what you are missing!
