“Covia!”

Madeline would like you to know how to make Covia!  Here’s the recipe. She says that Erik told her what was in it.

You’ll need:

2 apples

1 lb of strawberries (or less is fine)

2 drops of food coloring (or 4 drops if you want two different colors)

Optional: 3 spoonfuls of brown sugar and a few dashes of cinnamon.  Those were mommy’s additions

Chop up the apples and strawberries.  Put them in a pan.  Drop in two drops of food coloring. Use two different colors if you want to.  Mommy thinks you might like it with some sugar and cinnamon too.  Bake it in the oven for 15 minutes.  Mommy thinks 350 degrees is hot enough.

Here’s our Covia! before it went in to the oven.  There are two pans because one pan had cinnamon and sugar and one pan didn’t:

Madeline also says. “It was really delicious when we ate it.  Also really yummy and messy. It is very blue because I added a lot of blue food coloring.  More than two drops.  When it cooks, it makes it into blue Covia!  The one with sugar and cinnamon is very liquidy after cooking but the other one was pretty dry”

[We started hearing Erik say "Covia!" a few weeks ago, having absolutely no idea what he was talking about.  One day Madeline came up to us and told us that she found out was Covia! was and Erik told her.   They have been begging me to actually make it for days, so this was our fun family activity last night.]

Creative Writing: “Animal Elevator Song” by Madeline

(This creative work by Madeline really made me giggle…I hope you enjoy it too!)

“Animal Elevator Song”  by Madeline
Little animals, they’re sweet
Once they made a mall
And that day it was finished
So, everyone was able to come in it
But they can only come in when it isn’t dark
Because they can’t drive
So they only could stay home
The only times they could go
To the mall that they made is on Friday nights or weekends
And once they put up a sign on the elevator
They said, No penguins or giraffes on it
And some signs even said no grown up giraffes
On these elevators, only babies in there
How many penguins are there in it?
12 penguins in there
And now when grown up giraffes went in there
Without reading that sign
And they push and push
The penguins tell them that they didn’t read the sign
But the penguins didn’t read the sign either
Is this a funny song to you?
Yes, I do think it is
So, the big giraffes never went in the elevator again!
The little baby giraffes didn’t read the sign
Because they were supposed to go in
So that is the end of Madeline’s  song.

Creative Writing: A Recipe by Madeline

Madeline really enjoys creative writing…well, it’s more like “creative dictation”.   She relates stories, recipes, or instructions to me and I write them down.  Here’s a recipe she gave me today:

“Madeline’s Recipe for Muffins…or Maybe it’s for a Drink…Or Maybe it’s Something Else”

1. Fill a pitcher with water. But don’t pour the water in a mixing bowl

2. Cut up a banana

3.  Put it in a mixing bowl

4. Make some Raspberry Tea and pour it to the pitcher of water

5. Chop up some bacon and put it in the mixing bowl with the banana.  You don’t really need this but you can do it if you want to.

6. Add some sugar to the pitcher with the tea and the water

7. Then pour what’s in the pitcher into the mixing bowl

8. Get out your mixer and mix it up

9. Add some chocolate chips

10. Scoop it up and put it on a tray

11. Bake it for about 10 minutes

12.  Top with shiny frosting (see recipe below)

“Shiny Frosting”

1. Take some popped popcorn and chop it up

2. Next add a yellow drink, and mix it with a mixer. That’s all you need to do.

Madeline really wants to try her “recipe” and see what it makes. If we do, we’ll be sure to post pictures!
